TALKING ABOUT HER BOOK
“INTO EXILE: A LIFE STORY OF WAR AND PEACE”
“Into Exile: A Life Story of War and Peace” is about a time when the world was upside down and people forgot what it meant to be human. Into Exile is about what happened to the Baltic States during WWII.
Elin Toona Gottschalk was born in Estonia. She was seven years old on September 23rd; when Elin, her mother, and grandmother stepped into a fishing boat a few hours ahead of the Russian tanks. They were heading for Sweden, but instead they ended up in war-torn Germany. To distract Elin, her grandmother read her bible stories. Her grandmother likened them to the Israelites fleeing to the Promised Land.
It’s been 70 years since the Russians occupied the Baltics. Elin remembers’ the day they fled and amazingly, the day their country regained freedom again in 1991. Her story is being told so people never forget.
